Sea the Future
Mentoring the next generation of ocean scientists
Our Purpose
Sea the Future is a hands-on marine science mentorship program for junior high students hosted by the Benioff Ocean Science Laboratory and the UC Santa Barbara Marine Science Institute. The program aims to increase access to marine science education, build confidence and curiosity in STEM learning, foster meaningful mentor-mentee relationships, and inspire long-term interest in ocean stewardship.
About the Program
Students are paired with UCSB marine scientists to explore the wonders of the ocean through interactive workshops, field experiences, and playful discovery. Past field trips have included tidepooling, flying drones, and whale watching. By sparking excitement and connection at an early age, Sea the Future helps students see the ocean as a place of possibility, exploration, and belonging. No marine-science experience is required to join!
