River Plastics Proposal Submission

  • River Plastic Intervention Strategy: project proposal

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. THIS PROPOSAL SUBMISSION PERIOD HAS ENDED.
  • Enter your project's title here. Project titles should appeal to a broad, non-scientific audience.
  • Please input the name of the organization that is leading and submitting this project proposal.
  • Please input the country of origin of the organization that is leading and submitting this project proposal.
  • Please input the first name of the individual submitting the proposal on behalf of their organization
  • Please input the last name of the individual submitting the proposal on behalf of their organization.
  • Please input the title (e.g. Director, CEO, Science Coordinator, Lead Scientist, etc.) of the submitting party within the organization.
  • Please provide the email address of the submitting party to facilitate further communication regarding the status of this RFP.
  • Team members

In this section, you will provide information on your project team, including their role in the proposed project.
  • Please provide a list of your team's members, including: - Name - contact information (email) - organization affiliation, if not your own - the role they will play in the proposed project (e.g. science advising, government liaison, communications expert, etc.)

  • Please provide the name of the river your team is proposing to work in.
  • Please provide the name of the country within which your team is proposing to install the river plastic capture system.
  • If possible, please provide the approximate GPS coordinates (in decimal degrees, e.g., 31.467, 30.365) of the river site where your team is proposing to install the river plastic capture system.
  • In no more than 4250 characters (including spaces), provide a justification for selecting the river your group is choosing to work in. (i.e., Why is your chosen river the ideal pilot study location?)
  • In no more than 4250 characters (including spaces), describe your proposed physical plastic capture system.
  • In no more than 4250 characters (including spaces), describe your proposed communication/outreach plan to achieve reduction in influx of plastic pollution to the river.
  • In no more than 4250 characters (including spaces), describe how you will evaluate the success of your intervention strategy. Describe how you will conduct baseline data collection against which to measure success. Include measurable metrics for both the physical capture system, and the outreach/communications plan.
  • In no more than 4250 characters (including spaces), describe the anticipated impact of your intervention strategy (both plastic capture system and outreach/communication plan acting together). Include in this description your estimated timelines for these impacts.
  • A top priority for this project is recycling or re-using plastics captured in the river pilot project and responsibly disposing of plastics and other waste that are not recyclable. We recognize that, in most instances, building new waste processing plants or recycling facilities is beyond the financial scope of this award. As such, we strongly encourage teams to propose how they will leverage existing recycling/waste management infrastructure or programs at a proposed site to productively handle captured plastic. We also encourage applicants to describe how they have or will leverage funding from this RFP to secure additional new funding to cover any significant costs associated with new recycling and waste management infrastructure and programs. We welcome the inclusion of costs associated with new recycling or waste management infrastructure in applicants' proposals, but note that all such additions 1) must be compelling and well-justified and 2) cannot detract in the budget from funding the successful implementation of the river plastics capture device and associated communications efforts as outlined in the RFP. Please describe this plan in no more than 4250 characters (including spaces).
  • Project Budget

In this section, please describe your proposed project budget, making sure to identify budget breakdown over the four years of project funding.
  • Please upload your project budget, edited from the spreadsheet provided by the Benioff Ocean Initiative team.
Accepted file types: xls, xlsx, Max. file size: 100 MB.
  • In 2750 characters (including spaces) or less, describe the justification for your budget items as they pertain to the success of your proposed project.
  • Additional document upload

Please upload relevant documents here, including but not limited to:
  • CV or resume of the submitting party
Accepted file types: pdf, doc, docx, Max. file size: 100 MB.
  • If possible, upload copies of the proper permits for deployment of the physical capture system. However, we understand that these permits will likely require time to obtain; we will also accept: a plan (flowchart, calendar, etc.) describing actionable pathway for obtaining permits to demonstrate team's anticipated next steps if funding is awarded; a letter from local government in whose jurisdiction the physical capture system will be placed, to demonstrate support and likely issuance of permits going forward
Accepted file types: pdf, doc, docx, Max. file size: 100 MB.
  • Here, upload optional materials if desired, such as: a schematic of proposed physical capture system; a map of proposed intervention site; examples of potential communication/outreach materials; etc.
Accepted file types: pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg, Max. file size: 100 MB.
