Unnatural Beaches

Posted by Mike Gray | California, United States

Everyone loves a clean beach. The problem is we all have different ideas of what a "clean" beach is. Around the world, cities / governments spend $$ in cleaning the beaches. That's great for litter and trash, but they also "clean" the beaches of natural biological processes. Removing kelp, for example, makes the beach look clean but actually destroys the coastal ecosystem. The natural process of kelp decay and the bugs, birds, and fish it attracts is damaged as a result. This idea of a "clean" beach is actually a DEAD beach. Keep our beaches clean but also keep them natural! Bring nature back to our beaches!
