Too much trash on Staten Island beaches

I was talking to the ranger of the beach and we were talking about why there were so little people at the beach during the summer. And he said that there was too much trash and that he would even take his shoes off at the beach. He said somedays there were little pins and glass, and other days there were bags and plastic and all sorts of things that had to get quickly removed!!
