THE LACK OF FORAGE FISH

Posted by MATTHIAS HEILWECK | Alsace, France

Forage fish is lacking more and more, while it is essential for our noble fish farming, but also for all the wild marine species from upper trophic levels. For aquaculture, this means to use less fishmeal/fishoil and to produce a poorer food for us. For the open ocean, this means a weaker development of fish populations and less food for us. I propose to substitute the aquaculture needed forage fish with a big scaled mussel farm on high seas. I have developed this crazy idea on my website Commonseagood. These reflections of mine have to be scientifically audited and complemented.
