Prevent Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals From Washing Down The Drain
Posted by Amy Ziff | New York, United States
We must prevent ocean pollution such as Endocrine Active ingredients (like many high-risk pesticides and ingredients in personal care products) that have the ability to change the sexuality of our marine life. This image is of two MALE frogs mating. Because the chemical atrazine changed the sex of one of the frogs so they could mate. We need to protect marine life now by reducing and ultimately eliminating these chemicals from being dumped into the oceans, washing down drains and seeping in through the water table.
How can we do this? I don't know that I have the entire answer but if you knew that you were buying something made from ingredients not known to harm the ecosystem, would you change the way you shop? The MADE SAFE certification symbol does just that. It can start to eliminate this problem through allowing people to knowingly buy differently and send a strong message to retailers and brands that we don't want polluting products. That is the first step while working to figure out more aggressive plans for pesticides and lawn products that can have a major impact as well.
