ocean Plastics in Somalia

Somalia has the longest coastline in Africa with 333 km square. Despite the potential resources these coastline contains, its facing potential threats both from local and international communities. These includes dumping of wastes both chemicals and plastics, using unsuitable method of fishing and destructions of coral reefs. Lack of of unprotected marine areas and the skills to do conservation is another problem.
The Climate Change has another impact to our coastal communities such as see level rise, storms and sand dunes which disrupts the livelihood of our coastal communities.

Solutions
1.Community awareness to the danger of single plastic usage to both to the lives of the terrestrials and those of the aquatic
2. Building on community led marine protected areas
3. Skill building on conservation issues and mangrove planting programmes
4. Youth and women Engagement in beach and river cleaning campaigns
5. Supporting on policy formulation of plastics and save methods of fishing.
6. Climate change education to be given to the coastal communities
