Ocean Plastic Pollution education materials in spanish for latino populations
Posted by 5 Gyres Institute | California, United States
Ocean plastic pollution in the US has gained a lot of attention in the recent decade but mainly among the english speaking demographic. Often, educational materials about this environmental issue are designed without taking into consideration the historical and cultural values of the audience. There is a lack of spanish content available for latino communities; existing material is designed for the general public and then translated. Igniting awareness among the latino community could be amplified by tailoring this material to meet their cultural values. We propose to develop a video series in spanish to drive the connection on such issues of ocean and land-based plastic pollution, oil and climate change. As well, we will build a comprehensive online kit to make freely available for download for latino speaking audience in the US and worldwide.
This is very imporant that is why OpenLitterMap is also available in Spanish (and French, Turkish and Malay too with plans for more languages soon) so anyone can map and OPEN data on plastic pollution
