Insufficient Buffering Between Human Developments and Ocean Habitat

Challenges to ocean health are all interrelated. Pollution from increased runoff, direct dumping, habitat destruction and ocean acidification are all a direct result of ineffective or insufficient means to buffer the intraction between civilizations and the natural world. We can alleviate many of these issues by establishing ecological buffer zones, commonly in the form of estuaries. These establishments can simultaneously restore natural habitats and act as carbon sinks, particularly if biochar is applied in the soil program.
