Help stop seafood fraud

I'm very disturbed by the possibility of seafood fraud or seafood mislabeling where I live in San Francisco. This appears to be a problem that is bad for the oceans and potentially bad to our health everywhere it occurs. On a more superficial level I'm bothered by the fact that it legal for me to pay for one thing in a market or restaurant and get something else.

I think it is also unfair that our laws provide allowances for seafood mislabeling when many fishermen in California are very likely working hard to be more transparent and connect better with consumers.

Can't something be done to raise more awareness of this issue all the way through food systems? And fix this problem?
