Can we remove synthetic clothing fibers from waste water before they reach the ocean?

Clothing made from recycled plastic was meant to be a resourceful solution— removing plastic from the waste stream and reducing the negative effects of growing and processing cotton. However, it turns out that fleece and other synthetic fabrics shed microfibers that end up in the aquatic and marine wildlife.
